NON-ENGLISH CONTENT ON XANGA
Have you ever posted content in Chinese (or another language) and gotten a bunch of strange symbols instead
To fix such language display problems, we’re making changes to the way Xanga displays content in your browser (thanks Justin!). If this applies to you, we need your help! We’ve put the changes on a *test* site here:All you need to do is use the above link to browse Xanga like you normally do. If you notice any language display problems, please leave a comment or let us know on the Languages forum at:
Thanks!

Always working hard to make it better,Thank you!
There are some sites with Chinese characters that are displayed properly at my office computer, while at home it’s all gibberish. My only conclusion is that my home computer does not have the Chinese language enabled.
Thanks.
TeraLink Was Here!
and I had premium before and i saved archive files… and in the archive my Chinese characters posts became nonsense too.. should fix it soon.. thanks.
it fixes most of the problem, but not all.

no matter which encoding i use, it cannot be displayed proberly.

THX!!
That’s great.
I was wondering … while other sites have a lot of users from certain countries (e.g. LJ: Russia, Friendster: Philippines), are there any stats available on number of Xanga users by country?
i write in spanish all the time with no problem
great ! no more need to switch between encoding. keep up the good work ^^
Yeahay! I just don’t read anything other than English and occasionally Tagalog but that uses the same characters as English. Oh, well!
thx heaps=)
I usually post in English (and when I post Chinese I always make sure it’s in Unicode), but I have a few friends who post Chinese in different encodings. Someone even used to post Chinese in Shift-JIS encoding. I never understood why.
For me, Chinese posts are showing up properly on the regular site but not on the new site.
On the regular site, if gibberish comes up, it can usually be fixed by changing the encoding. Most of the time this does not happen because auto-detect usually works, except for on my subscriptions page where there may be entries with different encodings by different people.
However, on the testing site, gibberish came up and changing the encoding does not solve the problem.
Anyway, good luck with solving this problem!
No problem for me….
When i enter chinese, it appears fine in the blog entry box. However, it become gibberish when it is publicised. I don’t really know what’s the source of these problems. But some friends of mine had told me that it was unicode thingy.
Hope thats help.
great! no more switching! this is one thing that i’ve always had trouble with. thanks~~
I usually enter Chinese entries. When I post with Chinese Content and title, the content is displayed well.
However, when i try to edit the post, the title becomes Unicode. i.e. something like that:’#&1234;’
but the content is ok.
How can i get it fixed?
anyway thank’s for your hard work^^~
sounds like you guys are putting a lot of effort into this…great!
but my malay language uses the alphabets – same like english though…oh well…
oh thanks…
Thanks! Now the simplified Chinese characters can be displayed properly in the comment box. In the past, only traditional Chinese characters can be displayed normally. If we typed simplified Chinese characters, they turned into strange symbols.
However, there is still a small problem: the number that tells how many comments are posted (“1 comment”) won’t be updated if we post the comment in wwwuni.xanga.com. Please see if you can fix it!
Thanks, as a hungarian I appreciate it much! <3
Thanks for the effort.
I use mostly english at the moment, but I sometimes use french, german, italian, spanish, or greek, and your attention to this matter is appreciated.
THANKS!!! you dont know how many time si post in spanish and it comes out wierd.
I WAS HERE!

搞咩咁多英文-0-!
that site seems to have spy ware though -_- i dare not test it sorry
o.0.. I see…
Thanks a lot!!! Im from Hong Kong and now problems solved!
hello
i didn’t have such problems initially but recently i couldn’t view certain chinese words in my entries. some characters will be replaced with ‘boxes-like’ characters instead. (by the way i used unicode encoding)
may i know how i can get it fixed? thanks!
xanga is great!
搞咩咁多英文=3=
??
I post content in Traditional Chinese mainly and Xanga works well with it. Thank you!
OK I think i got it but we can type © at the end of the comment when we’re typing Chinese
It’s simpler……anyway, it’s happy to see there is an improvement
Go on!!
Does this fix apply to Xanga Themes?
cuz it doesn’t seem to work…
I still get random codes…
but it works for the old claf (old private page) though…
(P.S.: I type my entries in Traditional Chinese encoding…)
Thanks for your hard job to make the xanga better!
やっとUTF8になりましたか? どうもありがとうございました~(笑)
just make sure you have the right encoding when you’re on the entry editing page
then the entry should come out fine
THANKS~~~
the symbols thing use to happen, but I normally resolve it by changing the character encoding each time i write a blog entry
@@
THANKSS!!!!
need this so much XDDD
I am a Chinese and I live in Hong Kong. I can read and write but I don’t know how to enter Chinese. The Chinese words in my Xanga is copy and paste. I also found that display Chinese is a problem on Xanga, and the other languages (like French and German ) also.
Thank you very much for your kindness and support.
who are you?
wow, thanks for the effort! <3
thx!!
Update to IE8 should fix the problem?
you are hose in xanga???
@Aerogo, you can check do a whois: search on google for xanga.com and get those demographics.
The top 3 countries visiting Xanga.com are as follows: Hong Kong, the U.S. and Macao.
@kkxhk: their is a possibility it has to do with your language pack.
It works fine with me, unles Xanga has fixed it since =).a lso depends on what encoding they typed it in ^^
everything looks perfect..thx for yo effort!
cm~~幫埋我留 thz
thankyou so much for what you’re doing, i’m sure you’re putting a lot into this…
but unfortunately mine still doesn’t work. i write mostly in japanese, but sometime in chinese and english. i’ve tried going to the test site, changing the language settings, everything… please help! but good job on what you’re doing, keep it up! ^^

HELLO!!
As an exotic fashion model in China, my Blog ( http://www.xanga.com/heilyleung
) is worth $56784.34. How much is your blog worth? Just when I think
I’ve read the stupidest post ever, you go and post another. Your post
is an orgy of stultifying cacophonous verbal depravity; an exercise in
literary impotence, and an offense to all of good taste and decency.
Your
message board incompetence is an inspiration to botched lobotomy
patients everywhere. Rumor has it that you are almost incomprehensible
in person (as revealed by your desperate urge to babble nonsensically
on message boards.) No doubt, this rumor is true.
If brains were
gasoline, you wouldn’t have enough to drive an ant’s Go-cart around the
inside of a bottle cap. Is that a conclusion or simply the place where
you got tired of thinking? If you knew what you’re talking about, you’d
be dangerous. I am reminded of something relevant that Benjamin
Disraeli said: “He was distinguished for ignorance – for he had only
one idea and that was wrong.”
When god was handing out
personalities, you must have been holding the door. You’re so boring,
even a boomerang wouldn’t come back to you. I’d get more pleasure from
running my nostrils down a cactus, than reading another contribution
from you. Maybe you wouldn’t come across as such a jellyfish-sucking
mental midget if you weren’t intellectually slower than a herd of
turtles stampeding through a vat of chunky peanut butter; if your
weren’t so fat that your clothes come in three sizes: Extra Large,
Jumbo, and Oh-My-God-It’s-Coming-Towards-Us!, or if you didn’t have a
face so ugly that even your mother didn’t know which end to put the
diaper on. No, come to think of it, you would.
To sum up: I’d rather pass the world’s largest kidney stone than read another post from you.
-Gorgeous Chinese fashion model Heily ( http://www.xanga.com/heilyleung )
well,thanks…that’s so hard to me…
Thanks for the tip!
cm
You should post more.
Cute pic!
i cant seem to get into that test site.
Hello Ms. Mary,
You worked hard to make your site simple yet informative. I see that you don’t have much to say lately!
I like to write articles about God and religion on my site to help people to really get to know God, especially in these troubled times: 9 “The land is filled with blood, and the city is full of wrongdoing. For they say, ‘The Lord has left the land, and the Lord does not see.’ 10 But as for Me, My eye will have no pity, and I will not leave any sinner without punishment. I will bring their wrong-doing upon their own heads.” (Ezekiel 9:9-10) (NLV) I hope you get a chance to look at them.
Never had such a problem.
thanks for improving the language problem on Xanga
You know what?
There is something about Xanga that bothers me for a long time already.
Whenever I finish posting an entry or updated my profile or photo album, someone from “District of Columbia” AND “New Jersey” always comes to my page the minute I post it.
I’m worried about that. I don’t know who that stalker is, and if it’s from some companies that are trying to steal my pictures or info from my blog.
I was wondering if those scary stalkers are actually people that work for Xanga that comes to check our pages to see if there are anything bad or what.
Hope to hear an answer from you soon.
Thanks! Hope you’re having a good day!
係呀..我都唔係幾識睇XD

It shows “Network Error (dns_unresolved_hostname) ” to me. Seems that it is not a problem of language setting. Isn’t it?
